Words Can Hurt!

Author’s Note:  In this essay there isn’t a main character’s name because this book is written in a first person view.  Also the other character is named Sucker because he always sucks up to people.

The relationship of Sucker and the main character became more difficult as the story went on.  Sucker and the main character became tight in the middle of the story and after that everything went downhill.   After the beautiful girl, Maybelle, was messing with the main character’s mind, things became dirty between Sucker and him.  The book Sucker by Carson McCullers has many lessons in life that will help you understand people better.

Although you think it can be funny to call people names, some people take what you say seriously and are hurt by the names.  Before you call people names remember how you would feel if people called you those names.  An example in the book would be when Sucker was being called names and really took the words to heart.  Everyone is different, some people just ignore being called names and others can’t stand it.

Even though, you don’t like a person and want to call them names you still have to respect them.   The main character was getting really annoyed of Sucker and didn’t respect Sucker anymore.  Later on in the story the main character is sad about not respecting Sucker and wanted to apologize.   In the end of the book, the main character learned a lesson to respect all people.   An example would be when I didn’t really cared for someone, but I still respected the person and act like I like them.

Whenever a girl is near you trying to humiliate you and embarrassing you, you know something is up. Some girls don’t know how to express their feeling with boys so they some things try to embarrass them by telling fake rumor and other things like that.  In the book, Maybelle acts weird and embarrasses the main character to try to tell him that she likes him.  You are probably thinking why people would be mean to someone that they like.  An example would be when a person is being mean to someone but they actually like the person.

Respecting people and not calling people names is hard, it is important to do in life.  Don’t you want people to know you as a nice person?  If so, doing the nice things in the paragraphs above is extremely important.  Although some people are different and hard to figure out you still have to respect them.
